passing of local wine legend Geoffrey Michael
Jobling after extended illness.
March

previously merged/absorbed Michael Jobling Wines
and Grainger Wines).

See their final mailshot here:

delicacies continue to see a resurgence in town. In
2016
La Casa Delicatessen opened
up in the Grainger Market (#39 on this
Grainger Market plan)
and April 2017 saw
Kaltur Foods opens a Deli,
Wine Bar and Restaurant on #8 High Bridge
Street - both still going strong.
See also our
N.E. Wine Buying page for links and contact
details to our local wine retailer options,
including some newer names that have opened up
in the last few years, such as V.I.N. and The
Rare Drop in Gateshead, KORK in Whitley Bay and
Jesmond Wine Co. in ... well.... Jesmond!
A reminder also that;
-
Alastair Stewart retired
and the Richard
Grainger store at West Jesmond closed in 2021. (Guest
Wines initially took over their wine lists after doing
the same with Michael Jobling in 2019).
-
Bin21 was sold by Paddy Eires and the
Hexham and Morpeth stores are now being run by
different ventures.
-
Wine Chamber's North
Shield store closed, Tynemouth remains open.
