12%. A biscuit
nose (and taste), smoky with some baked apple. Very
refreshing on the palate with light fruit and clean
acidity.

13.5%. A richly
coloured, big wine with a smoky oak and buttery
nose. A complex wine with a delicate, soft
mid-palate, with a zesty finish that goes a little
bitter - a somewhat confused style.

3.
Rebenhof 2010
Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese Trocken Von
alten Reben

13.5%. A
concentrated, sweet, oily nose. Spicy in the mouth
with a touch of spritz, almost tannic in texture
with a long, lingering taste. Each sip added to the
dryness but the fruit and alcohol also build,
keeping balance.

14%. Waxy with a
floral/pollen aspect on the nose and a matchstick
component (some said rubber). Herbal dryness on the
palate, quite rich with preserved lemons, although
still a delicate wine with a long, subtle finish.

5.
Domaine Fond Croze 2000 Cuvée Romanaise Côtes du

13.5%. There was
some bricking to the colour with a volatile, savoury
nose showing maturity and a touch of raisin. Light
on the palate with developed secondary
characteristics including a little mushroom. Gentle,
light tannins with a touch of sweetness at the front
and a very quick finish.

13.5%. A sweet
and slightly savoury nose, thin at the front and
quite light. Somewhat dry, lost its fruit, not as
complex as expected by most.

13.5%. A lovely
warm, spicy nose with some eucalyptus. Medium bodied
but packs a punch at the edges, almost delicate
complexity with soft tannins. Showing its age on the
attack with a sour finish.

8.
Quinta do Noval 1985 Vintage Port

Douro

Auction

£55
|
20%. An autumnal
colour in the glass with pronounced bricking. Quite
a delicate nose, a touch of sweetness, a touch of
spice but not overtly “Porty”. Sweet grape attack,
the alcohol is quite integrated. This is a light,
refined wine, elegant and restrained.
